A Season To Remember

The girls throughout the Tomahawks 2019 season played hard, worked hard, and had fun.  By the end of the season both the 14U and 12U teams earned an esteemed place in Tomahawks lore.

Along with the camaraderie, life lessons and athletic enjoyment of lacrosse training, the Tomahawks Girls 14U team amassed 5 wins on the season, and the Tomahawks Girls 12U accumulated 4 wins and 3 ties.

Both teams accomplished the best win-loss records for any girls Tomahawks team since 2013.

Girls coaches Steven Harman, Reilly Bruff, and Phoebe Kim were impressed and stated --

“We did not focus on a win-loss record during the season,” said Coach Harman.  “Instead we concentrated practicing on growth and development and having a good time. The girls should be proud of what they accomplished and together as a coaching staff we are fantastically proud of them!”

A rainy year didn't stop the team from practices, with many days on the infamous blacktop, “just like they do back east”.

In a testament to their toughness and maturity the girls took each step in stride.

“The girls were extremely enthusiastic and came to the field with a lot of energy,” said Coach Kim.  “They worked hard during practice which definitely showed in competitive games.”

That work ethic was essential in the competitions, for roster sizes were on the small side making each contribution from Tomahawks players pivotal for team success.

There were some clear leaders, like Girls 14U 2019 MVP Blythe Powaga and Girls 12U 2019 MVP Skyler Schramm, who led their teams on the field in scoring and stats.

Returners Brooke Decker and Sophia Gamble showed their talent and drive, and newcomers Emmy Lo and MJ Moore made their presence in the league known right away.

“No ‘stars’, just team,” Parent Volunteer Coach Ken Schramm said, pointing to the strong sense of unity that was in the huddles.

“The girls played with a combination of grace, grit, and gratitude for each other as teammates”, said Coach Harman, with each player knowing they were important and could do things to help bring the team to victory.

"The girls really grew together as a team over the course of the season," said Coach Schramm.

"It was awesome to see how veterans on the team would encourage and help team members who have just started playing."

"Together, they came prepared on game day, and the results show their efforts."

“There is so much talent on this team and as long as they continue practicing and keep up the good attitudes, then they all will be going places when they grow up,” said Coach Bruff.

“They are all so bright and talented and I feel so lucky to have been able to coach them and share some knowledge with them.”

Then she thinks a moment and makes the point that everybody brings up: “This was such a fun season!”
