Tomahawks Year Round Programs

Fall Ball - September to November for Boys and Girls Youth and High School players.  Boys High School has a Fall League and play games every week.  The Youth Program is instructional, but does include a few scrimmages. 

Spring Leagues -  Youth teams for boys and girls U9, U11, U13, and U15 play in the Northern California Junior Lacrosse Association League. 

Team NorCal - A regional boys travel team for U11, U13, U15, U17 and U19 age groups, selected through competitive tryouts in the spring.  Travels to regional and national tournaments throughout the year. 

SummerCamps - Week-long SummerCamps for new and experienced players. 

SummerBall - Weekly pickup up games for Boys Youth and High School players in July and August. 

 

The Tomahawks Youth Lacrosse Club is a non-profit youth sports organization and a 501c(3) corporation.  Founded in 1990, we are one of the oldest of 60 club teams in Northern California, ranging from Redding to Monterey, and from San Francisco to Sacramento, which play youth lacrosse under the auspices of the Northern California Junior Lacrosse Association (www.ncjlax.org).

The Tomahawks Youth Lacrosse Club is a year round program, offering league play, travel teams, Fall Ball, SummerBall, summer camps, and instructional clinics thoughout the year.  We also work with Team NorCal, a regional All Star team that travels to regional and national tournaments.   These year round programs are targeted to youth and High School players for both boys and girls. 

The Tomahawks Club during the regular Spring season sponsors 12 boys and girls lacrosse teams for over 230  players, ranging from 1st to 8th grade .  Our players come from Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Portola Valley, Woodside, Los Altos, Atherton and throughout the MidPeninsula. We have a long history of excellence, having won more district, regional, and state championships than any Club on the Peninsula.

We feed youth players in to many high schools, but Palo Alto High School (Boys and Girls 2010 SCVAL Champions)  and Menlo Atherton High School have traditionally been our major schools where our players play in HIgh School.   Over 60% of the Boys High School All Star Selections from last years Santa Clara Valley Athletic League were former Tomahawk players.  

Membership: Membership in the Club is open to boys and girls in grades 1-8 throughout the Peninsula. Team eligibility is determined  by age. There is no geographic restrictions, and anyone can join the Tomahawks. Registration occurs in the Fall for the Spring season (which lasts from February-May).

Coaches:  We have over 15 coaches with Division 1 college lacrosse experience, several former men and women All Americans, and even a few current and recent professional lacrosse coaches in our ranks.  
 
League: The Tomahawks Club is one of 60 clubs that belong to the Northern California Junior Lacrosse Association (NCJLA), the governing body for youth lacrosse clubs in Northern California. These teams are located throughout Northern California, from Monterey to Marin, and from San Francisco to Sacramento.

Philosophy: We believe that lacrosse is a special game, as did the Native Americans who invented the game over 600 years ago.  We think the game is an opportunity to develop our players mentally, physically, and emotionally.  We play to honor the game and respect our teammates and our opponents, and to make our ourselves better athletes and better individuals. We do not believe in the 'professionalization of youth sports'. We expect and hope that kids will play sports other than just lacrosse.  We believe there is a role for kids of all ranges of athletic talent to have a great experience on the lacrosse field.  While we are thrilled to provide an environment to enable outstanding players to pursuit lacrosse at higher levels, we are also equally happy to see kids who will enjoy lacrosse as a youth player.  Lacrosse is not what is important; it is the experiences that kids will have to learn how to motivate and challenge themselves, to play as part of a team, and to strive to be their best. 

Team Structure: The Tomahawks field teams in the following age divisions. These teams play other age and skill-level appropriate teams from throughout Northern California in games, tournaments, and jamborees. In many age groups, we sponsor more than 1 team, depending on interest level and signups.  We keep strict limits on the number of players per team to make sure everyone has a quality experience.

Boys Teams
Bantam - Under 9 years old
Lightning - Under 11 years old
Junior - Under 13 years old
Senior - Under 15 years old

Girls Teams
Lightning - Under 11 years old
Junior - Under 13 years old
Senior - Under 15 years old
 
Season: Typically, each team plays from 12-15 games over the course of the season. Within a given age division, the league sponsors different skill level leagues, ranging from 'A' (most competitive), to 'C' (developmental). League standings are kept, and the NCJLA sponsors year end playoffs.  Many Tomahawks players have gone on to play college lacrosse.
 
Our team colors are green and gold.

Our home field is the new Upper Lacrosse Field at Palo Alto High School - probably the newest and nicest lacrosse field in the State of California.

Games begin in March and last through May and we will be holding several special clinics for players in the off season (October - January) to allow them to start or continue working on their skills.
